Rhythm - The Lub Dub

RHYTHM – The Lub Dub

Rhythm is something which we encounter even before taking our first breath in this world. The human heart begins to beat its lub-dub at approximately three weeks after conception. At this time, our heart beat is synchronized with that of our mother’s. This is why we experience rhythms and connect to it even without knowing the theoritical part of it. We all tap our feet while listening to some song and many of us even set their fingers free on any surface to beat and play a rhythm don’t we?

Learning Rhythms is comparatively easy as it represents the chopping down of time. The Rhythm is represented in the same unit we use to measure the heartbeat – BPM (Beats Per Minute). So, Rhythm is measured in relation to time which is one of the most fundamental entity in physical as well as meta-physical science. The whole world operates on 60 BPMs – which is the Rhythm of seconds strike by the clock which we call – a minute. The human heart also responds to music by synchronizing itself to the rhythm we hear. Dance and syncopated music have known to increase the heartrate while soothing, low pace music like lo-fi/chill/blues are known for calming effect. Summing it all up, we all carry a Rhythm in our heart to which we call -The Lub Dub!

Workshop on rhythmic foundation

We all have tapped our fingers on either utter excitement or anxiety. We have also seen our elders or friends to tap their feet while listening to some music. Have you ever wondered how can we relate to rhythm so easily without going under a formal education or degree course? I mean we cannot treat patients or create electricity or even mend motor-vehicles without getting trained right? So what’s in rhythm that it gets induced in us so easily?

In this workshop, we will discuss on how we are connected to rhythm, how we can understand it towards ourselves. Following topics shall stand cleared after attending the workshop:

  1. Understanding Rhythm
  2. Analysis & measurements
  3. Common Terminologies
  4. Chopping the bars
  5. Building blocks of rhythm (introduction)
  6. Ethics of practicing – How to develop required dexterity

The participants shall also be provided with take-aways consisting of what was explained in workshop. Register yourself now by clicking the button below.

Baba Tirkit

I don’t remember since when it started but since a long time, I have been addressed by a pet name – ‘Baba’. Friends around me started addressing me while chilling together and soon I also picked up a habit to address other people as ‘Baba’. It like a transalation of ‘homie’. One fine day, I was munching bols of Tabla while practicing and that evening, I came-up with this poem in which I have tried to weive the rhythms of daily conversations and bols of Tabla together. The syllables varies in time signature like 4/4, 8/4 and 3/4 as well. Have a look :-
